Vice President

The Vice President is responsible for facilitating the strategic direction of the board in tandem with the Executive Committee. This role is charged assuming and performing the duties and responsibilities of the President during the President’s absence. Responsibilities involve ensuring knowledge and commitment mirrors that of the president, and serving in the president’s place for board activities and in the spokesperson capacity where applicable. The Vice President also works closely with board members to ensure that the organization’s vision and directives are cohesive and consistent with UNA-Chicago’s service delivery model and strategic plan.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Serves as a member of the Executive Committee
  • Shall perform the duties of the President in the absence of the President, or in the event of his/her inability or refusal to act, the Vice President shall perform the duties of the President, and when so acting, shall have all the powers and be subject to all the restrictions upon the President
  • Presides at all meetings of the membership and of the Board in the absence, inability, or at the request of the President
  • S/he has concurrent power with the President to sign, with the Secretary or any other Executive Committee officer of the Chapter, any legal contracts or other instruments which the Board has authorized to be executed
  • Attends appropriate partnership meetings and maintains relationships with community contacts along with President
  • Manages Chapter Board Member job descriptions and roles
  • Assists President in strategizing/managing/overseeing projects taken on by the Chapter, Board Members, Committee Chairs, Task Forces, and other Chapter volunteers
  • Reviews and manages Chapter bylaws (in terms of updates, adherence, acceptance by new Board Members, etc.)
  • Develops, oversees, and implements Chapter Board Director elections process each year
  • Manages and adds to the institutional memory documentation and Chapter history
  • Performs such other duties as assigned by the President or the Board
