Global Peace Picnic 2017

UNA Chicago

Global Peace Picnic 2017

Sunday we commemorated the United Nations International Day of Peace with our third annual collaboration with the City of Chicago’s World Music Festival.

Thousands of Chicagoans joined us for an afternoon filled with family-friendly activities including face painting, instrument making, peace t-shirt silk screening, a musical peace procession on the 606, live music, food and fair trade craft vendors courtesy of Chicago Fair Trade!

Performances included bomba-hip-hop fusion group La TRIBU De Abrante from Puerto Rico, Tuareg songwriter and musician Mdou Moctar from Niger, and Afro Venezuelan sensation Betsayda Machado y La Parranda El Chavo from Caracas!

Honored Guest and Master of Ceremonies

Robb Skinner

We had the privilege to welcome Robert Skinner, Director of the United Nations Information Center (UNIC) as our honored guest and Master of Ceremonies for the picnic. Mr. Skinner maintains relations with officials from the U.S. government, members of Congress, media, civil society, the diplomatic community, business and educational institutions.

Our team enjoyed a fun and casual day in the park talking to fellow attendees about the United Nations, UNA Chicago’s efforts in the city, and raising funds for the Adopt-A-Future campaign by painting faces!
